2008 Belgium Women's Underwater Hockey Team European Championships.

In the lead up to the European championships, four training camps where held. I attended three where we set team training goals and applied our chosen formation.

Over the build up to the competition there was a vast improvement in the team and as individuals. Each player worked hard on their fitness which showed in the later matches of the competition.

We arrived in turkey on the 25th with a warm up day on the 26th. Our first game was against turkey where we lost 13-1 a good first half but we struggled with turkeys physical game, next we played Serbia with a convincing 8 -1 win. Day two we played Czech Republic winning 8-4 then Great Britain where we lost 13-0. Day three we played Spain with a half time score of  2-2 but lost control of the game in the second half to lose 8-2. The following four days provided similar results which showed we had control in the first half but let go in the second half.

After the round robin we were placed 5th and played Serbia in the quarter finals. We had a great first half but lost again in the second half to lose 5-2. We then played france for 5th place and won easily 6-1. The Team preformed very well but looking to the future there are a few measures to expanded the sport and develops the team.

A larger build up to major competition is needed with at least 5 training camps to give the girls as mush playing time together as possible, this would strengthen them mentally and physically to perform in the second half of the games.

It's easy for a team like this to stop playing together as they get back to normal club hockey, they need to keep playing as a team in a social level to build trust and to develop new players into the squad.

I would finally like to thank FEBRAS/BEFOS for allowing me to coach such great team and I look forward to helping them in the future.
